Letter from the Director: Celebrating the Legacy of DYA
Feb 19, 2020

Dear DYA Community and Supporters,

For nearly 20 years, the Duke Youth Academy has served nearly 900 students hailing from our own town in Durham, North Carolina to the far reaches of the earth in Shanghai, China. Divinity students, faculty, and administration have shaped this vibrant community in practices of baptism, hospitality, prayer and worship, and word. After sixteen years of generous support from Lilly Endowment Inc. and concerted, but ultimately unsuccessful, efforts over the past three years to create a financially sustainable model, 2020 will be the final cohort of the Duke Youth Academy for Christian Formation (DYA).

While the DYA team laments this news, we hope to celebrate the vibrant life and history of this community. To that end, DYA is organizing a two-day Alumni Gathering and Celebration on June 26 – June 27. This event will coincide with the DYA Residency (June 21 – June 27). We hope that this gathering will be a time to share stories from DYA, time to recreate under the shade of the Duke Chapel, and participate in worship and share meals.

Look for an invitation for you to join us this summer mid-March 2020

In addition to the forthcoming Alumni Gathering, we will be gathering alumni stories from students, staff, and parents, and youth pastors to cumulate into a 20-Years of DYA publication. Please consider writing your DYA stories. If you are a parent or youth ministry, please consider writing about the impact of DYA on your child or youth ministry. Click here to add your story or upload a short video or audio file.

If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding the Duke Youth Academy, please email me at duyouth@div.duke.edu or call our office at 919-613-5323.

Warm regards,

Milton
