We invite rising high school juniors and seniors from across the nation and from any denominational tradition to apply for a year of learning, service, worship, and fellowship that begins with a transformational week of residency on Duke’s campus.
Applicants must complete the online application, including two short essays and two recommendations. Upon submission of the online application, the Duke Youth Academy will email recommenders a link to complete on behalf of the applicant. Applicants will also be responsible for gaining the commitment from a member of their community (a youth leader, pastor, teacher, or other) to serve as a community mentor. The non-refundable application fee is $25.
The 2019 DYA application portal is open! While the priority deadline has passed, we are still accepting applications for DYA 2019. We encourage you to apply soon as our applicant pool is quickly filling. Please read information on this page carefully prior to applying.
DYA tuition and room and board is valued at $4,000. Donors make it possible for us to award a scholarship of $3,050 to every accepted student. Students are responsible for the remaining $950 in tuition fees and any travel expenses they may incur. Full and partial need-basis financial aid is available on a limited basis.
Residency: June 23-29, 2019
Year of Mentorship: June 2019-June 2020
We encourage students to ask their local community to support their DYA experience financially as a first step. Past students have written to their pastors and other church leaders asking for a support, invited the members of congregation to support their DYA experience, launched online crowd-sourcing campaigns, and hosted fundraising dinners.
Ask early, ask often, and say thank you!
We’ve provided a sample letter to get you started.
Every year, we grant a limited amount of financial aid to students who would otherwise not be able to attend. Every student is eligible to apply for financial aid.
To apply for DYA financial aid, the student’s parent or guardian completes the DYA Financial Aid Application, which includes a financial worksheet and the most recent year’s tax return. If, for whatever reason, you do not have a U.S. tax return, please contact the DYA office for an alternative process.
